The Jesus I Never Knew
If you ask the question, “Who is Jesus?”
and “What is He like?” you might be surprised at the varied responses you receive.
Some would say that Jesus was a good man, a moral teacher, a prophet, the Savior, or God
Himself! Some people picture Jesus as the meek and mild figure of children’s
stories, sort of a Mister Rogers figure carrying a lamb. Others see him as a stern and serious
figure angrily denouncing the religious leaders and turning over tables in the temple as in movie, “The Gospel
According to St. Matthew” (1964). Still others view Jesus as a blond and
unblinking blue-eyed thin young man with the John Lennon hair and a British
accent, Robert Powell who played Jesus in “Jesus of Nazareth” (1977).

Matthew 3:13-17New International Version (NIV)
The
Baptism of Jesus
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by
John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be
baptized by you, and do you come to me?” 15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do
this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. 16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water.
At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like
a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said,
“This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
